Pull off Justin Trudeau’s style with tips from GOTSTYLE

The Heritage. True North, Strong and Free.

Remember when Prime Minister Trudeau got caught in Dublin wearing boring socks? We sure did, so we sent him a few of our favourite socks. Wouldn’t you know, a few weeks later, he sent us a reply.

Dear King x Portland Team:

Thank you very much for the pairs of fun socks. I love to see Canadian businesses thriving, and expressing their celebration of Canada 150 in different ways. The unique design of your socks and innovative online company is certainly creative and exciting. As you mentioned, I was caught with boring socks in Dublin, so I truly appreciate this gift!

Thank you once again. I wish everyone at King x Portland all the best, and wish you a very Happy Canada 150!

Please accept my warmest regards.                                                                                                                                                                    Sincerely,

Justin Trudeau

Flashy socks aside, Matteo recommends a pretty conservative approach for Justin Trudeau to keep a businesslike appearance. His advice can also apply to anyone looking for a clean, professional look.

1. Choose a classic solid colour for your suit.

Navy blue or gray are tasteful choices. Patterned suits might not be appropriate for parliament, but they can also look sharp in a professional setting.

2. Make sure to TAILOR your suit.

Matteo often sees men wearing suits that don’t fit very well around the shoulders, or have sleeves that are too long. Pick a suit that’s flattering to your body type (he says high-waisted trousers – a popular Italian cut – are both comfy and look great). Matteo also says to NEVER do up your jacket’s bottom button.

3. Maintain a professional look by minimizing accessories.

A good watch along with a tasteful tie, and maybe a pocket square, are about the most you should include. But as far as socks are concerned, Matteo says anything goes.
